day-to-day pregnancy

Over the weekend, Kate started to roll over onto her tummy. She started by working hard to get on her side... and then three times she went further and got to her tummy. Her physical therapist was very impressed when she saw her this morning and scheduled her next appointment for 4 weeks from now.

Bath time has become very exciting. Kate has enjoyed water for a long time, but now it seems she saves up all her energy for the 10 minutes she spends in her little tub. The splashing is so strong we have water everywhere (including soap in her mouth and ears, which she doesn't seem to mind).

Two new things: Kate has learned to turn book pages. She likes Pat the Bunny and The Cat Book. The only problem is that she seems to only want to turn pages backwards. We haven't been able to effectively explain the concept of left-to-right western reading. She has also shown preference for certain songs; she will dance in her crib, sometimes kicking and waving her arms so much she ends up doing a full rotation.

Interesting coincidence - my first entry on this blog (the day I found out I was pregnant) was April 7, 2004. Kate was born December 7, 2004 - exactly 8 months later.

Kate had her 4-month appointment at the doctor this morning. She weighs nearly 15 lbs (or 7 kg) and measured 26 inches (or 66 cm). She is heavier than 75% of babies her age, and off the charts when it comes to height. The doctor told us that, at 4 months, she is average height for a 7-month old. She had anotehr round of the same 4 shots they gave her at 2 months. This time, David got to hold her while I stepped out of the room.

Kate is finally sleeping through the night. Since Tuesday of this week, we've been putting her to bed around 11 pm and she is out until 6 or 7 am. The secret? We started spacing out her feedings. Instead of every 2 or 2 1/2 hours, she now has a bottle every 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

We took Kate to a friend's baby shower yesterday and she behaved like a lady (as usual). We met a couple with an adopted baby boy who is just a month older than Kate (and the only baby we've seen with more hair!). Talking to them was very educational and I wish we knew more new parents. As a result of our talks, I went out and bought a boppy pillow to help Kate with tummy time.
