day-to-day pregnancy

Kate is showing a very strong interest in drawing and painting. I shouldn't be surprised, since Grandmother Leila was a renowned artist. We bought her a cute little easel with chalkboard, white board, and drawing paper. She got right to work, wearing an old t-shirt of mine. I need to get her an apron and beret!

Empathy is a word being tossed around a lot these days because of the bullying in schools. I had never really thought of it but paying more attention to Kate these days I realized how easy it is to teach generosity, empathy, and compassion to my little girl. From books to simple conversation, there are so many opportunities to explain the importance of kindness, and she seems to "get it" so easily. Last week I was diagnosed with tendinitis on my right hand so I had to take it easy for several days. For Kate, that meant Mommy couldn't pick her up, or make her breakfast, or help her towel off after a bath. She was not only understanding of my temporary limitations, but also very empathetic, asking about my hand and offering to help me do things around the house. As I keep saying, I don't know how I got to be so lucky with this kid, but I am most thankful for it.
