day-to-day pregnancy

Kate has learned how to climb down from the bed and she also started going down the stairs the same way. Her walking is getting better and better. Here is a photo of her with Granddad Jim.

I took Kate to a play area near our house, and she got to try the swing for the first time. It's now an official passion. She doesn't care for the slide, but we will keep trying.

Sadly, Kate developed a fear of water. She screams and cries whenever we bathe her, and sometimes not even toys will distract her. I did some research and found out that toddlers often develop this mysterious hatred for the bath, and it usually goes away in a few months for no good reason. I guess I better scratch my plans to buy an inflatable kids pool for the summer.

Like every other baby, Kate is very curious about everything that is closed, locked or otherwise out of reach. Her favorite at the moment is the spice drawer in a kitchen cabinet that is low to the ground. She opens the door, pulls the drawer out and spreads little containers of garlic powder, cumin, oregano and whatever else she can find all over the place. One morning David went to feed the dog and along with the food, a small bottle of vanilla extract came pouring out of the bag.

Kate started to walk unassisted, and she likes it so much she hurt herself trying to walk inside her crib. Her nanny had already put her to bed for her afternoon nap, and she had been so quiet we thought she was asleep. Then I heard a bump noise and the crying started. She apparently hit her head on the rails trying to walk on the mattress. It was no big deal, and I am glad she is taking to walking with enthusiasm!
