day-to-day pregnancy

Kate's second tooth is clearly visible, right on top of the first one. She started making a real effort to stand up, but still rolls over when she wants to get around! I introduced her to grass recently because the heat wave seems to be gone for good and the days are getting mild and beautiful. Two days this week we just sat outside, pulling out grass and watching butterflies.

Before Kate was born I was surprised by an email from a complete stranger, whose daughter was pregant. He had found Pea in the Pod through a web search, and kindly let us know he was reading Kate's blog. It was incredibly touching to know that our experiences with pregnancy and birth were being followed by someone we didn't know. This week that lovely gentleman wrote again to share the great news: his daughter gave birth in June to a beautiful girl named Megan. He started a blog of his own (found here) which I intend to follow just as closely. Today Kate and I will make a toast (with diet coke and water in a sippy cup, respectively) to this sweet new Grandpa and his beautiful Megan. Thank you for sharing the news!

I am usually the photographer, so I don't have many photos with Kate. This is a rare occasion:

Kate is 8 months today! Some new things from last week: she grabbed the spoon and fed herself a couple of times; new words "gig" and "egg" are being repeated constantly. At first we thought "gig" was Zelda, but now we realize the cats are "ga", and everything else is either "gig" or "egg".

Kate has been doing great with the sippy cup. Surprisingly, she doesn't like juice (although fruit continues to be her favorite food), but she will always take water. Her tooth is very visible now, just a small white line on her gum, and she seems to be making very good use of it. Today she reached into my lunch plate and grabbed a couple of boiled carrot slices and pieces of green beans. Everything disappeared in seconds.
