day-to-day pregnancy

Kate got sick just in time for my 2-week trip to Japan. She seemed fine until lunch on Sunday, when she threw up at the restaurant where we had gone to lunch. She seems to be on the mend now, without fever but with a runny nose and some coughing. It breaks my heart to leave her when she is sick. On a separate note, some of her new favorite things now are Clifford books, anything Little People (she knows all the names!), and three little books by Margaret Brown: Goodnight Moon, Big Red Barn, and Runaway Bunny. She requests a full reading every night.

It's been a while because I had lost my blogger password. Kate continues to develop at an alarming pace. She is learning about the days of the week and the planets. Good manners are also on the menu; Grandmother Elsie is using a book called "The Polite Elephant" and Kate is already saying things like "May I be excused, please?" when she is ready to leave the table. Unfortunately, these past few days also brought signs of the "terrible 2's" - she gets easily frustrated when something is not according to her wishes, and there is plenty of whining and tears.
